Winston offers many services to its citizens, including the R.U.O.K? automatic computerized program that makes at least one safety check phone call a day, 365 days a year, to each person who is a Free subscriber to the system. To be a subscriber, a person needs a telephone, be a senior citizen, homebound or disabled or at-risk of a life threatening medical cause. Winston, as do many other communities in Oregon, relies on volunteers to do a great many things. Another example is the Dial-A-Ride program which provides rides for transportation disadvantaged people.
Volunteers are also involved on the Winston Budget Committee, Winston Planning Commission, Winston Park Board, and the Winston Traffic Safety Commission.
